Extreme heat and its persistence in recent months caused sunburn and overheating of pistachio orchards in Rafsanjan and pomegranate.

The heat in August and its continuation during the day has caused severe damage to the pistachio crop of Rafsanjan and pomegranate orchards.

This damage varies in different gardens depending on soil type, water salinity and irrigation frequency.

Also, pistachio cultivars have suffered relatively different damage due to heat tolerance, but most of the damage has been done to Ahmad Aghaei and Koleghoochi cultivars, which are among the commercial pistachio cultivars.

The final percentage of damages is being investigated.
The director of Agricultural organization of Rafsanjan city, in a conversation with the market, referring to the heat damage to Rafsanjan pistachio orchards, said:

the increase in temperature to 37 degrees and its continuation in the current crop year has caused sun damage, burning and heat to pistachio crop.

Abbas Haj Abdollahi stated:

Severe heat and complete burning of seeds, as well as moderate damage in orchards that have a long irrigation time or high water ec is more.

He considered the soil texture and sensitive cultivars to be effective in the severity of the damage and said:

Ahmad Aghaei and Koleghoochi cultivars have a higher percentage of damage.

The cultivars which are damaged the most.

The director of Agricultural organization of Rafsanjan city continued:

There is heat damage in cultivars such as hazelnut, mumtaz and wrinkles.

He said that the amount of damage is higher in the upper and lower clusters of the tree that received more heat, adding that the final percentage of damage is being studied by experts.

The most damage is related to Kaleghoochi cultivar

The director ofiran agricultural organization of Anar city, in a conversation with the market, informed about the heat damage to the pistachio crop of this city and said: the increase in temperature during the growth of the kernel has damaged the commercial pistachio cultivars.

Abbas Mehran stated that the increase in temperature to 40 degrees Celsius in August and its continuation during the day is the most important reason and stated: Sunburn causes pistachios to be harvested hollow and semi-nut.

He considered the required temperature of pistachio crop according to different types between 35 to 38 degrees Celsius and added: considering that the increase in temperature was more than the tolerance of pistachio plant, the most damage is related to Koleghoochi cultivar.

Mehran said: the amount of damage varies between 35 to 65% according to cultivar, soil texture, irrigation cycle and soil and water salinity.
